We’d like to introduce our latest new hire and Head of Finance and Risk at Hedgehog. Gareth joins us from Delio and will be overseeing and driving the growth of Hedgehog's finance and risk function.
I was most recently Chief Operating Officer at Delio, a software-as-a-service provider to financial organisations in relation to private market activity. I've got over 20 years of experience in financial services in Europe and the Far East across a variety of disciplines and working with companies at varying stages of their evolution. Former roles include being the Global Chief Risk Officer of HSBC Private Wealth Solutions and the Chief Risk Officer of HSBC Private Bank in Asia Pacific and I initially trained as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG.
I believe three key investment trends in recent times are the growth of private markets, the popularity of environmentally positive investments and the increasing democratisation and efficiency offered by technological advances, particularly tokenization. Hedgehog’s mission sits at a fantastic intersection of these trends and I'm hugely excited to be joining the team, contributing to the growth of the company and delivering value to our clients.
I often think that working at a start-up is like riding a rollercoaster - some terrific highs and some challenging lows! Being involved at the outset allows me to shape my area at an early stage, to contribute in initially pointing the business in the right direction and to pivot quickly as necessary.
I believe that many of the most appealing and credible investment opportunities are confined to a small minority and the ‘product shelf’ for eligible investors is un-inspiring and unbalanced, perversely leading to a detrimental impact for savers. Hedgehog’s mission sets out to play an important role in using technology effectively to address a long-standing problem.
